Stress Management Tips, Part 4

8/13/2021

When we are stressed, we feel overwhelmed by our circumstances, thoughts, and feelings, leaving us stuck and confused. In today’s post, I am sharing a method you can use to help organize your thoughts, gain some clarity, feel lighter, and ultimately feel less overwhelmed. Write this out on paper for the most benefit, but you can also think about it or talk it through with someone else.

Answer the following:

  1. What are the objective facts of the situation? What are the black and white factors involved in this situation?
  2. What are your thoughts on the situation? This includes your perspective, beliefs, opinions, and emotional-based thoughts.
  3. Identify what feelings you are experiencing.
  4. What is in your control? What is one action step you can take right now that is in your control?

These questions help us identify the difference between thoughts and emotions and process through the stressful situation to understand what is in your control and get “unstuck.”
